Memorial Weekend is here!
And what does that really mean?
The pool is open and grills are heating up for summer.
Yes, I’m with everyone else on being excited for fun in the sun.
But every year I like to remember what Memorial Day really means – and what it’s really about.
Why do we have the day off after all?
And why are we celebrating?
Why are the flags up every where?
And why is everyone getting Red White and Blue bikinis? 😉
It’s no secret that I come from a military family.
A long running military family including my father, brother and uncles so it goes without saying, in the Redmond household we celebrate our veterans and anyone who has sacrificed being away from a loved one and/or lost a loved one in the line of duty.
Freedom isn’t free and it’s out of respect that we acknowledge and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
With that, I want to say that I have an opinion on honoring our country and what it means to be an American.
I’ve had a lot of people ask me my opinion – and I thought I would share it here in full transparency.
All of the controversy that is going on with the NFL and players choosing not to stand and show respect for the flag and anthem makes me feel sad and angry.
I feel strongly that the it shouldn’t be about injustice but about respect for your country and those that are serving and have served so that we can remain the home of the free because of the brave.
So, with that I cheers and salute those that have served and are serving our country.
And, maybe you shouldn’t have the day off if you don’t honor our country. #justsayin
I wish everyone a blessed, beautiful and safe weekend.
Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
